A guide to the rank system (ranks)
To the untrained player, the current system may seem overly confusing. Initially everyone starts playing in “no rank” status, but after a few introductory games the system objectively evaluates your current skill and awards the appropriate rank.
The following guide will give more detailed and comprehensive information about the actions necessary to systematically increase the rank and progression within the CS GO.
Getting your first rank
You should start with getting the very first rank. To do this it is necessary to initially get the second level of experience, because only after achieving it the competitive part of KC opens to the player. The easiest and most correct way to achieve the desired result is to choose a few deathmatch or casual matches. In them, beginners can get the initial skills of the game, understanding of the basic mechanical principles and just try out their strength against live opponents.
After reaching the second level, it is required to win 10 matches in matchmaking mode. Based on the average statistics, the system will give the player a certain grade and starting rank. Obviously, gamers with little experience in shooters get low starting ranks (notorious “Silver”), while more experienced players start with high ranks. But it should not be forgotten that the higher the rank, the higher the competition and complexity of the opponents.
The lowest rank is Silver I. The highest rank – Global Elite.
Note that the actual time spent in the game has no effect on the rank obtained. That means that in theory you can meet a player with 5,000 hours and a rank around Silver. There is some honesty in this, because everything is in direct correlation with the actual level of the game.
How do I raise my Rank?
Although the current algorithms for awarding ranks are not so simple, it is relatively easy to ensure a stable growth of the rank. First of all, it should be understood that the more matches a player wins – the better for the rank, although other factors are taken into account in the calculation. In particular, it is possible to allocate such moments:
- The level of the teammates taking part in the matches. The lower the rank of the teammates, the more points the player will get in case of a positive result (for the victory the player gets a conditional elo).
- The level of the opponents. The calculation is done in a similar way to the last point, but in a mirror relationship.
- Number of MVPs. This refers to the number of stars received as the “most valuable player of the round”.
- The difference between won-lost rounds. It’s not enough to just win, you have to do it with as much margin as possible, because 16:14 gives much less elo than 16:1. It’s the same story with losses; the more dignified the loss, the less chance you have of losing the title.
All of these factors have an impact on the rate of rank growth, but how do you use this information to significantly speed up the process?
The simplest and most stable way is justifiably considered a symbiosis of personal training and improving your understanding of gameplay. Definitely do not mindlessly play all the games in a row. It is important to monitor your own game, to be in search of errors and ways to fix them. Another good solution would be to watch the game experienced and professional players. This can be official game demos as well as live streams. From all of these sources you can get important and useful information.
The most effective ways to raise your rank in CS:GO
If you’re stuck at a particular level and can’t get moving for a long time, there are several practical ways to make the progress you want.
1. Play with your team in a party
Reliable partners can be a suitable support, allowing you to win consistently. It can be noted that by entering a team game alone, there is a serious danger of falling for unreliable teammates, who are prone to lions, silence, excessive talking, and so on.
If you play steadily with your friends, as long as everyone has a microphone, you can surround yourself with players charged with winning. Also, as time goes by, you’ll develop certain combinations, playing positions together, and so on. For example, only by constantly playing together can you achieve synchronized flash output, adequate smoke and Molotov cocktail deployment, exchange outputs, and so on.
2. Don’t play right after losing the last game
Many people are in a depressed mood after a loss, and that is perfectly normal. But to immediately start looking for a new game is a very common mistake. This is due to the fact that the player’s current emotional state has a direct impact on his playing abilities and decisions. Because of this, even experienced CSers can show different results on different days.
Instead of letting your anger get the better of you, you need to give yourself some time to let off some steam, switch gears, look at your demos, find the cause of your defeat, and try not to make the same mistakes again. This is the only way to improve your game and progress. Here are a few tips to help you approach the next game in better shape:
- If during the game you felt problems with the shooting – there is nothing wrong to devote 15-30 minutes to this aspect, running in desmatch mode against live players or bots. It is important just to feel the shooting in any convenient way.
- If you’ve been playing on your own with random teammates, it’s better to call your friends. And to find a partner for the game is not difficult, because there are many kinds of thematic forums and other resources to find teammates for an evening or long term.
- If in the course of the match in your hands was rarely a good weapon (AK, AR, AWP), then perhaps you should pay more attention to the economic component, that is not shy to hold eco-rounds with guns, when it is really necessary.
- It’s important to feel the game. In particular, be more aggressive for the side of the terrorists and more passive for the opposite side. Don’t go along with your teammates playing the game wrong, but rather set your own example.
3. Choose your maps
Even professional players cannot perform perfectly on all competitive maps. Therefore, each of us needs to choose several cards and roles on them to bring them to perfection. We emphasize that card selection can be guided by a variety of principles, from knowledge of layouts, to visual perception.
Not a bad solution would be to learn the cards that are rarely chosen by other players, because it will allow you to find your zone of domination. This can be the already classic Train or the fresh Anubis.
4. Practice shooting and grenades
AIM (shooting skill) – one of the most important skills for the player in KC GO. No matter what role you have to play on the map, sooner or later it will all come down to the ability to out-shoot your opponent. It is possible to highlight such ways to tangibly improve your game:
- Servers with FFA and Deathmatch modes. They were specifically designed as ideal arenas for the development of shooting skills, which are used by all players who want to achieve at least some results.
- Aim botz. In the workshop you can find a large number of different maps, sharpened to shoot bots on a truly industrial scale. Most of them provide the ability to fine-tune the training process, which you should definitely take advantage of (bot movement, their inventory, speed, available weapons). To run such a map, you need to download it beforehand, and then run it in the game through Workshop.
5. Make sure you have the optimal settings
The game provides a wide variety of settings that can be individually adjusted by each player. First of all, make sure that HRTF is selected in the sound settings. It is designed for better headphone positioning. In fact, it makes it easier to determine the current location of your opponents.
Objectively, graphics settings have relatively little effect on gameplay, but some of them help you win and give you an advantage over your opponents.
- It’s worth giving up the vertical sync function.
- It is better to specify the value of the maximum possible number of frames per second yourself. This can be done in the settings or with the console command fps_max.
- Play exclusively in full-screen mode – it gives a more stable frame rate and generally beneficial to the performance.
- Blurring is not a good ally.
- Be sure to enable multi-core rendering mode. Otherwise, not all available features of the system will be used.
